Explore the Mercantour National Park
The Mercantour National Park is just a few meanders away from the Rioclar campsite. The Mercantour is a paradise for hikers and nature lovers. It is particularly well known for being one of the wildest of France, and one of the most diverse in terms of sceneries. 600 km of well maintained and marked trails, including the GR 5, and GR 52A which forms the most scenic trail of the Mercantour Park.
The Allos Lake on the Ubaye side is sited at 2,220 m altitude. It is dominated by the Pelat Mount (3052 meters) and is the largest natural lake in altitude of Europe. It covers 60 ha and is about 50 m deep.

Because of the variety of grounds and climates (Alpine and Mediterranean), the park has over 2000 species of plants. Deer, chamois (8000 individuals), ibex (1100), mountain sheep (mouflon), deer, lynx and wild boars thrive.
